Website Tips

Need some tips to make your website noticeable and make people want to come back to see more? Check out these tips :-) I appologize for unneeded sarcasm.

001. One thing I cannot stress enough is the fact that websites nowadays are not making noticeable names. Stained Ink. That's not hard to remember. It stands out. How many websites have had the words 'stained' and 'ink' in their names? Probably none. Beautifully Vintage. uuuhhh . . . wah?

002. 'Yah like today i had a math test that was SOOOO hard! I mean my best friend and i were like OMG how r we going to . . . ' Yes, It's easy to spot the problems. But the main thing is that blogging about your personal life that no one can relate to, like your history homework and your English test, isn't exactly going to make people look forward to going to your site. I hate to break it to you, but if a person says ' Wow, that sucks. I hope your history teacher gives you less homework!' it means that they probably couldn't care less.

003. Nobody is going to want to visit your site everyday if it hasn't been updated since 1996. Okay, more realistically, 2006. Why are you paying for your website if you know you won't update it? It will have outdated blogs, outdated content, outdated graphics - if that's what you do, etc. If you're going to make a website, try to update every now and then so people have something to look forward too. Which brings me to my next point . . .

004. entertaining blogs. Throw in some humor, random facts about yourself, opinions on things nobody ever thinks about. If a visitor knows that they can laugh and agree about something, you might end up with 50 comments one day ;-). Remember to have fun with it. Your not going to have fun if you have to sit there and think about what you need to say.

005. Cool layouts are important. When a visitor visits your site, the layout is their first impression. Don't make it a blinding neon green, yellow, orange, rainbow-ish thing that reminds you of last nights dinner. Most of my layouts have about 3 colors based on the header, and a fourth random color that I just throw in there. I also make sure to throw in some neutrals. Bold colors should be for bold text.

006. Great content is great! Chances are that's why the visitor visited your site in the first place, because they wanted something from YOUR site. If you have great content, that will attract everyday visitors. Remember Quality over Quantity. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true. Would you want a cruddy and cheap sign for your website, or an ultra cool retro one? That's what I thought. ;-)
